Aveeno positively radiant daily cleansing pads rev

New product from Aveeno-Daily Cleansing Pads

Cons: Excessive packaging, toss-out product, company tests on animals, cost.

I decided to give this product a try, as I had two coupons, one from the store I shop at and one from the makers of Aveeno. In deciding whether I would buy a disposable cleanser or the tube of cleanser, I finally settled on the one-time use cleansing pads. reason why was that I don't generally enjoy using washcloths on my face & the extra laundry. I've used disposable cleansing cloths before, and enjoy their convenience.

I bought Aveeno's Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing Pads, which come in a attractively colored pearlized cream and light sage green jar. The jar measures 3 1/2" H x 4" around, rather large for a counter, and too large for most medicine cabinets.

There are 28 pre-moistened, dual-textured pads, rough on one side and smooth on the other. Each pad measures approximately 3" around and is rather thick. about the thickness of a nickel. There is a light citrusy fragrance that smells fresh. THe product has moisture-rich soy extracts.

To use, the face is moistened with water and the pre-moistened pad is run over the skin, using either the textured side or the smooth side. I generally use the textured side on my forehead and chin and the smooth side on the rest of my face, particularly around the eyes and neck. If you have sensitive skin like me, rubbing too hard with the textured side can feel like rough-grit sandpaper, so a lighter touch is recommended. Excess exfoliating also aggravates breakouts in my skin, so I'm extra careful.

A pleasant lather will form on the skin as the pad is moved around, cleansing it. It is recommended to rinse thorougly, although it takes a few splashes or more of water to completely get all of the lather off. After use, the pad is thrown away, although I might use it to scrub my hands off with a little soap if the lather isn't completely spent, just to get a bit more use out of it before I toss. the rough side feels good on the skin there.

I experienced no irritation, redness or breakouts from using this product. The scent is light enough that it doesn't bother me, however, it smells nothing like most of the other Aveeno products in my opinion, because it has a noticeable perfume. The exfoliating properties leave my skin feeling smooth, refreshed and renewed without feeling dry and abused. The smooth side of the pads are gentle on my eyes, cleanse eye makeup off thoroughly and don't pull on the skin. I like the fact that these are soap and oil-free, and the fact that I'm not using a bar of soap that's been sitting in a wet tray for hours, gathering bacteria.

The packaging seems a little too excessive for my taste. the pads are compressed during manufacturing and packaging, according to the jar's label, and they have a lot of space around them. There's nearly an inch of wasted space inside the jar around the pads' sides and upwards. There's barely any excess liquid in the jar. its all soaked up in the pads. The screw top lid makes getting the pads out a little difficult, so I remove the pad before washing for the sake of convenience. unscrewing a smooth plastic jar with slippery wet hands and a sopping wet face while trying to separate one pad from another isn't exactly a spa experience.

Unfortunately, one cannot smell what this product's scent is like before they buy, as the product is sealed for safety.

The tossing out of pads, especially nice ones like these DOES bother me. I see it as both a pro and a con. I really feel guilty about the disposability factor of this product, so I try to use it up as much as I can before I throw it out. I also recommend wringing out the pads before tossing because who wants a wet, festering mess in their garbage can? And please don't flush down the toilet. they'll clog it for sure. The portability is also handy when traveling, although I might put these into zipper-top bags to save space & keep the product moist. An extra jar might come in handy at work, if you need to go directly to dinner or drinks afterwards & want to wash up quickly and re-apply your makeup beforehand. These also might come in handy if going on a road trip.

In my area, this costs $6.99 a jar, which is 28 days' worth. that's .25 cents a day, not including sales tax.

The jar is recyclable, and the label is easily removable. Because it's an attractive color and can be easily cleaned, I'll most likely use it to store stuff in it after its empty.
